Este edificio no tiene cuarto piso. Etiqueta al amigo que seguro preguntaría por qué. Entras en un ascensor de un edificio alto en el este de Asia y pulsas el botón de un piso alto. Los números van del tres al cinco. El cuatro simplemente falta.
No es un error. En chino, japonés y coreano, la palabra para cuatro suena casi exactamente igual que la palabra para muerte. Mucha gente evita el número de la misma forma en que algunos edificios de Occidente se saltan el piso trece. Así que los constructores lo eliminan por completo, o escriben tres A en su lugar.
Fíjate en suficientes ascensores en Pekín, Tokio o Seúl y notarás el mismo hueco una y otra vez: sin piso cuatro, sin piso catorce, sin piso veinticuatro. Un número entero, eliminado de la vida diaria.
