La terza mattina, Chiara mise un piccolo labirinto trasparente nella vasca. Al centro c'era della carne di granchio. Il percorso aveva due svolte a destra e una a sinistra.
Pasta osservava dal suo angolo.
Pasta inviò due braccia verso il labirinto. Il suo corpo non si mosse. Le braccia presero direzioni diverse. Una andò sopra. L'altra entrò dentro.
Un polpo ha molti neuroni. Due terzi di essi sono nelle braccia, non nella testa. Ogni braccio ha il proprio sistema nervoso. Ogni braccio può risolvere un problema.
Il primo braccio attraversò il labirinto. Girò agli angoli. Il secondo braccio trovò un piccolo cancello. Il primo braccio spinse dall'interno. Il secondo braccio spinse dall'esterno. Il cancello si aprì.
Il braccio prese la carne di granchio.
Pasta non aveva mosso il suo corpo.
Chiara guardò il suo video. "Le braccia hanno preso il cibo," disse. "Il polpo ha risolto il labirinto, o lo hanno risolto le braccia? Non lo sappiamo."
Polly guardò Pasta. Il polpo tirò la carne di granchio verso il suo becco.
