The Waterfall That Falls Upward

Look closely at this waterfall. The water is not falling down. It is blowing up, back into the sky, like a video playing backward.

Olhe bem para esta cascata. A água não está a cair. Está a ser soprada para cima, de volta ao céu, como um vídeo a passar ao contrário.

This strange sight happens on very windy days at tall waterfalls in Norway. Strong wind pushes hard against the falling water. The smallest drops are light enough for the wind to catch. Instead of dropping to the ground, they fly back up into the air.

Isto acontece em dias de muito vento, em cascatas altas na Noruega. O vento forte empurra com força contra a água que cai. As gotas mais pequenas são leves o suficiente para o vento as apanhar. Em vez de caírem no chão, voltam a subir pelo ar.

Big drops of water are too heavy for this. Only the tiny, light spray turns around. Stand here on a windy day, and you might watch an entire waterfall seem to change its mind.
