This Beach Is Made of Trash

It is not jewels. For decades, the town nearby used this exact spot as its dump, throwing away bottles, dishes, and broken glass straight into the water. The ocean did the rest.

Het zijn geen edelstenen. Tientallen jaren lang gebruikte het stadje ernaast precies deze plek als vuilnisbelt en gooide flessen, borden en gebroken glas zo het water in. De oceaan deed de rest.

Wave after wave, year after year, the ocean smoothed every sharp edge until the broken glass turned into small, round, colorful stones. Today it is a protected park, and picking up even one piece is against the law.

Golf na golf, jaar na jaar, sleep de oceaan elke scherpe rand weg tot het gebroken glas veranderde in kleine, ronde, kleurige steentjes. Vandaag is het een beschermd park, en zelfs één stukje meenemen is bij wet verboden.
