Wenn Menschen eine Nachricht in ein anderes Land schicken, reist die Nachricht oft unter dem Meer. Lange Kabel liegen auf dem Boden des Ozeans. Sie verbinden Städte und Länder auf der ganzen Welt.
Die Kabel sind nicht sehr groß. Viele sind so dünn wie ein Gartenschlauch. Innen gibt es dünne Glasfäden, jeder so dünn wie ein Haar. Licht bewegt sich sehr schnell durch das Glas und trägt dabei die Informationen.
Diese Kabel leisten wichtige Arbeit. Sie übertragen ungefähr fünfundneunzig von hundert Nachrichten, die zwischen Ländern verschickt werden. Heute gibt es mehr als sechshundert Kabel im Meer, und zusammen sind sie sehr, sehr lang. Sie verlaufen durch jeden Ozean auf der Erde.
