La seconda mattina, Chiara portò un barattolo nella vasca di Pasta. Il barattolo aveva un coperchio a vite. Dentro c'era un granchio vivo.
Chiara lasciò cadere il barattolo nell'acqua. Affondò lentamente. Pasta non si lanciò.
Polly si appollaiò sul bordo. Il granchio si muoveva dentro il barattolo. Pasta toccò il barattolo con un braccio. I suoi tentacoli possono assaporare ciò che toccano.
Pasta afferrò il barattolo con due braccia. Lo girò lentamente. Un terzo braccio lavorava sul coperchio.
I polpi possono aprire barattoli con coperchi a vite. Lo fanno nei laboratori dagli anni '50. Sentono le filettature con le ventose. Poi girano il coperchio.
Pasta girò il coperchio. Si aprì con un pop. Il granchio cercò di scappare. Ma il quarto braccio di Pasta era in attesa. Il granchio sparì.
Chiara scrisse sulla sua tavoletta. "Tre minuti. Sta diventando veloce."
I polpi sono molto strani. Hanno tre cuori. Il loro sangue è blu. Vivono solo da tre a cinque anni. Pasta aveva già due anni.
Avrebbe imparato tutto ciò che avrebbe mai saputo nel tempo che le restava.
