Librăria Greșită

Lucas a comandat o cafea și s-a așezat în colțul gol al cafenelei. A scos cartea și a încercat să citească. Dar bărbatul de la masa alăturată îl privea.

Lucas ordered a coffee and sat in the empty corner of the café. He took out his book and tried to read. But the man at the next table was watching him.

"E o ediție foarte veche," a spus bărbatul. Lucas a ridicat privirea. Bărbatul purta o jachetă groasă, deși în cafenea era cald. "Obișnuiam să vând cărți ca asta. După colț. Acum librăria nu mai există."

"That's a very old edition," the man said. Lucas looked up. The man was wearing a heavy jacket, even though the café was warm. "I used to sell books like that one. Around the corner. The shop is gone now."

"Nu mai există?" a întrebat Lucas. Se simțea stânjenit, dar nu știa cum să iasă din conversație. "Ce fel de librărie?"

"Gone?" Lucas asked. He felt awkward, but he didn't know how to leave the conversation. "What kind of shop?"

Bărbatul a râs încet. "Cărți vechi. Patruzeci de ani. Apoi clădirea a fost vândută unei bănci. Și banca s-a închis, acum trei ani. Acum e un magazin de haine." S-a uitat pe fereastră. "De fiecare dată când trec pe acolo, uit pentru o secundă. Aproape că intru."

The man laughed quietly. "Old books. Forty years. Then the building was sold to a bank. The bank closed too, three years ago. Now it's a clothing store." He looked out the window. "Every time I pass by, I forget for one second. I almost go inside."

Lucas a închis cartea și a ascultat. Bărbatul nu a cerut nimic. Doar voia să povestească cuiva despre un loc care obișnuia să fie acolo.

Lucas closed his book and listened. The man did not ask for anything. He just wanted to tell someone about a place that used to be there.
