Die falsche Buchhandlung

Lucas bestellte einen Kaffee und setzte sich in die leere Ecke des Cafés. Er holte sein Buch heraus und versuchte zu lesen. Aber der Mann am Nachbartisch beobachtete ihn.

Lucas ordered a coffee and sat in the empty corner of the café. He took out his book and tried to read. But the man at the next table was watching him.

„Das ist eine sehr alte Ausgabe", sagte der Mann. Lucas schaute auf. Der Mann trug eine dicke Jacke, obwohl das Café gut geheizt war. „Ich habe Bücher wie dieses verkauft. Um die Ecke. Den Laden gibt es nicht mehr."

"That's a very old edition," the man said. Lucas looked up. The man was wearing a heavy jacket, even though the café was warm. "I used to sell books like that one. Around the corner. The shop is gone now."

„Gibt es nicht mehr?", fragte Lucas. Er fühlte sich unwohl, wusste aber nicht, wie er aus dem Gespräch herauskommen sollte. „Was für ein Laden?"

"Gone?" Lucas asked. He felt awkward, but he didn't know how to leave the conversation. "What kind of shop?"

Der Mann lachte leise. „Antiquariat. Vierzig Jahre. Dann wurde das Gebäude an eine Bank verkauft. Die Bank hat vor drei Jahren auch zugemacht. Jetzt ist es ein Bekleidungsgeschäft." Er sah aus dem Fenster. „Jedes Mal, wenn ich vorbeigehe, vergesse ich es für eine Sekunde. Ich gehe fast hinein."

The man laughed quietly. "Old books. Forty years. Then the building was sold to a bank. The bank closed too, three years ago. Now it's a clothing store." He looked out the window. "Every time I pass by, I forget for one second. I almost go inside."

Lucas schloss sein Buch und hörte zu. Der Mann wollte nichts. Er wollte nur jemandem von einem Ort erzählen, der einmal dort gewesen war.

Lucas closed his book and listened. The man did not ask for anything. He just wanted to tell someone about a place that used to be there.
