새벽에 묻은 저녁밥

작은 호수 근처에서 폴리는 깊은 구덩이 옆에 큰 솥들을 보았다. 요리사가 밧줄로 솥을 구덩이에 넣었다. 폴리는 지켜보았다.

Near a small lake, Polly saw big pots next to deep holes. A cook put a pot into each hole with a rope. Polly watched.

솥 안에는 고기와 채소가 있었다. 그 아래 땅은 화산 때문에 뜨겁다. 불은 없다. 땅의 열만 음식을 익힌다.

Each pot had meat and vegetables inside. The ground under it is hot from the volcano. There is no fire. Only the earth's heat cooks the food.

솥은 여섯 일곱 시간 동안 땅속에 있다. 사람들은 기다리며 산책을 한다. 그리고 저녁을 먹으러 돌아온다.

The pots stay in the ground for six or seven hours. People go for a walk while they wait. Then they come back for dinner.

첫 솥을 열자 김이 나왔다. 아주 좋은 냄새가 났다. 폴리는 요리사가 기쁘게 솥을 들고 가는 것을 보았다.

Steam came out when the first pot opened. It smelled very good. Polly watched the cook carry it away happily.
