Makan Malam yang Dikubur Sejak Pagi

Di dekat danau kecil, Polly melihat panci besar di samping lubang yang dalam. Seorang juru masak menurunkan panci ke tiap lubang dengan tali. Polly menonton.

Near a small lake, Polly saw big pots next to deep holes. A cook put a pot into each hole with a rope. Polly watched.

Setiap panci berisi daging dan sayur. Tanah di bawahnya panas karena gunung api. Tidak ada api. Hanya panas bumi yang memasak makanan itu.

Each pot had meat and vegetables inside. The ground under it is hot from the volcano. There is no fire. Only the earth's heat cooks the food.

Panci tinggal di dalam tanah selama enam atau tujuh jam. Orang-orang jalan-jalan sambil menunggu. Lalu mereka kembali untuk makan malam.

The pots stay in the ground for six or seven hours. People go for a walk while they wait. Then they come back for dinner.

Uap keluar saat panci pertama dibuka. Baunya enak sekali. Polly melihat juru masak membawanya pergi dengan gembira.

Steam came out when the first pot opened. It smelled very good. Polly watched the cook carry it away happily.
