夜明けに埋める夕食

小さな湖の近くで、ポリーは大きな鍋と深い穴を見ました。料理人がロープで鍋を穴に入れました。ポリーは見ていました。

Near a small lake, Polly saw big pots next to deep holes. A cook put a pot into each hole with a rope. Polly watched.

鍋の中に肉と野菜が入っています。下の地面は火山でとても熱いです。火は使いません。地面の熱だけで料理します。

Each pot had meat and vegetables inside. The ground under it is hot from the volcano. There is no fire. Only the earth's heat cooks the food.

鍋は六、七時間、地面の中にあります。人々は待つあいだ、散歩に行きます。そのあと、夕食を取りに戻ります。

The pots stay in the ground for six or seven hours. People go for a walk while they wait. Then they come back for dinner.

最初の鍋を開けると、湯気が出ました。とてもよいにおいでした。ポリーは料理人がうれしそうに運ぶのを見ました。

Steam came out when the first pot opened. It smelled very good. Polly watched the cook carry it away happily.
