Na spoustě míst je hlasité srkání jídla neslušné. V Japonsku je srkání nudlí naopak zdvořilé.
Má to dobré důvody. Srkání nasává s nudlemi vzduch, takže rychle ochladí horký vývar. Zároveň ti při jídle dostane do nosu víc vůně a chuti, podobně jako když lidé před ochutnáním přivoní k vínu. Hlasité srkání navíc kuchaři prozradí, že ti jídlo chutná.
Zvyk vznikl už dávno, když byly nudle rychlým pouličním jídlem a lidé je jedli ve stoje a rychle. Až budeš příště někde takhle jíst nudle, zkus to sám. Trocha hluku tady není nezdvořilost. Je to poklona.
