Două Kilograme de Răbdare

Sâmbătă dimineața, Ana a mers pentru prima dată la piață. Voia să cumpere fructe și legume pentru săptămână. Piața era plină de oameni, voci și culori strălucitoare.

On Saturday morning, Ana walked to the market for the first time. She wanted to buy fruit and vegetables for the week. The market was full of people, voices, and bright colors.

S-a oprit la o tarabă mică cu roșii. "Cât costă, vă rog?" a întrebat ea. Bătrânul din spatele mesei s-a uitat la ea. "Pentru salată sau pentru sos?" a spus el. Ana nu știa ce să răspundă.

She stopped at a small stand with tomatoes. "How much, please?" she asked. The old man behind the table looked at her. "For salad or for sauce?" he said. Ana did not know what to answer.

"Pentru salată," a spus ea în cele din urmă. Bărbatul a clătinat din cap. A arătat spre o cutie. "Acestea sunt pentru salată. Ferme. Culoare bună." A arătat spre altă cutie. "Acestea sunt pentru sos. Moi, foarte roșii, dulci." A zâmbit. "Roșii diferite, muncă diferită."

"For salad," she said finally. The man shook his head. He pointed at one box. "These for salad. Firm. Good color." He pointed at another box. "These for sauce. Soft, very red, sweet." He smiled. "Different tomato, different work."

Ana a cumpărat un kilogram din fiecare cutie. Bărbatul le-a împachetat cu grijă în hârtie. I-a dat un mic lămâie cadou. "Pentru salata ta," a spus el.

Ana bought one kilo from each box. The man wrapped them carefully in paper. He gave her a small lemon as a gift. "For your salad," he said.

Când a ajuns acasă, s-a așezat la masa din bucătărie și s-a uitat la sacoșa ei. Simțea că a cumpărat mai mult decât roșii.

When she got home, she sat at the kitchen table and looked at her bag. She felt like she had bought more than tomatoes.
