Dua Kilo Kesabaran

Pada Sabtu pagi, Ana berjalan ke pasar untuk pertama kalinya. Dia ingin membeli buah dan sayuran untuk seminggu. Pasar itu penuh dengan orang-orang, suara-suara, dan warna-warna cerah.

On Saturday morning, Ana walked to the market for the first time. She wanted to buy fruit and vegetables for the week. The market was full of people, voices, and bright colors.

Dia berhenti di sebuah kios kecil yang menjual tomat. "Berapa harganya, Pak?" tanyanya. Bapak tua di belakang meja menatapnya. "Untuk salad atau untuk saus?" katanya. Ana tidak tahu harus menjawab apa.

She stopped at a small stand with tomatoes. "How much, please?" she asked. The old man behind the table looked at her. "For salad or for sauce?" he said. Ana did not know what to answer.

"Untuk salad," katanya akhirnya. Bapak itu menggeleng kepala. Dia menunjuk ke satu kotak. "Yang ini untuk salad. Keras. Warnanya bagus." Dia menunjuk ke kotak lain. "Yang ini untuk saus. Lembek, merah sekali, manis." Dia tersenyum. "Tomat beda, kegunaannya beda."

"For salad," she said finally. The man shook his head. He pointed at one box. "These for salad. Firm. Good color." He pointed at another box. "These for sauce. Soft, very red, sweet." He smiled. "Different tomato, different work."

Ana membeli satu kilo dari masing-masing kotak. Bapak itu membungkusnya dengan hati-hati menggunakan kertas. Dia memberi Ana sebuah jeruk nipis kecil sebagai hadiah. "Untuk saladnya," katanya.

Ana bought one kilo from each box. The man wrapped them carefully in paper. He gave her a small lemon as a gift. "For your salad," he said.

Ketika sampai di rumah, dia duduk di meja dapur dan melihat ke dalam tasnya. Dia merasa seperti telah membeli lebih dari sekadar tomat.

When she got home, she sat at the kitchen table and looked at her bag. She felt like she had bought more than tomatoes.
