Am Samstagmorgen ging Ana zum ersten Mal auf den Markt. Sie wollte Obst und Gemüse für die Woche kaufen. Der Markt war voller Menschen, Stimmen und leuchtender Farben.
Sie blieb an einem kleinen Tomatenstand stehen. „Wie viel, bitte?", fragte sie. Der alte Mann hinter dem Tisch sah sie an. „Für Salat oder für Soße?", sagte er. Ana wusste nicht, was sie antworten sollte.
„Für Salat", sagte sie schließlich. Der Mann schüttelte den Kopf. Er zeigte auf eine Kiste. „Die hier für Salat. Fest. Schöne Farbe." Er zeigte auf eine andere Kiste. „Die hier für Soße. Weich, sehr rot, süß." Er lächelte. „Andere Tomate, andere Arbeit."
Ana kaufte ein Kilo aus jeder Kiste. Der Mann wickelte sie sorgfältig in Papier. Er gab ihr eine kleine Zitrone als Geschenk. „Für Ihren Salat", sagte er.
Als sie nach Hause kam, setzte sie sich an den Küchentisch und betrachtete ihre Tüte. Sie hatte das Gefühl, mehr gekauft zu haben als nur Tomaten.
