Molte persone bevono caffè al mattino, ma poche sanno da dove viene. Il caffè cresce su una pianta verde con foglie lucide. Alla pianta piace il caldo, vicino al centro del mondo. Si dice che le prime piante di caffè crescevano tanto tempo fa in Etiopia, in Africa.
La pianta fa piccoli frutti, chiamati ciliegie. Le ciliegie sono verdi all'inizio, poi diventano rosse piano piano. Dentro ogni ciliegia rossa ci sono due piccoli semi. Le persone raccolgono le ciliegie mature con le mani e prendono i semi. Questi semi si chiamano chicchi di caffè.
Poi, i chicchi verdi si asciugano al sole per molti giorni. Dopo, le persone li tostano con il calore, finché diventano marroni scuri e profumano benissimo. Alla fine, qualcuno macina i chicchi e aggiunge acqua calda. Dopo un lungo viaggio dalla fattoria, il caffè è pronto da bere.
