The Ninety-Day Grain

The bar in Kirkwall had five tables and a fire. Polly sat near the heat. "Can I see the menu?" she asked. There were only a few things on the card.

커크월의 술집에는 탁자가 다섯이고 난로가 하나 있었다. 폴리는 불 가까이에 앉았다. "메뉴 좀 볼 수 있을까요?" 하고 물었다. 차림표에는 몇 가지밖에 없었다.

"Could you recommend a good dish?" The owner was a heron. She said the bannock. Bere is a barley grown here for hundreds of years. It grows fast, in a short summer.

"괜찮은 요리 하나 추천해 주시겠어요?" 주인은 왜가리였다. 그녀는 배넉을 권했다. 베어 보리는 이곳에서 수백 년 동안 기른 보리다. 짧은 여름 안에 빨리 자란다.

"Do you have vegetarian options?" Polly asked. The heron pointed at the same line. Bannock, butter and soft cheese.

"채식 메뉴도 있나요?" 폴리가 물었다. 왜가리는 같은 줄을 가리켰다. 배넉과 버터와 부드러운 치즈였다.

"Can we get the bill, please?" Polly said. The heron took her time, which is a good sign. Outside, the wind was almost calm. Polly walked up to the red cathedral.

"계산서 좀 주시겠어요?" 폴리가 말했다. 왜가리는 천천히 가져왔다. 그것은 좋은 뜻이다. 밖에는 바람이 거의 없었다. 폴리는 붉은 대성당까지 걸어 올라갔다.
