九十日の麦

カークウォールの店には席が五つと暖炉がありました。ポリーは火の近くにすわりました。「メニューを見せてもらえますか。」と聞きました。紙には料理が少ししかありませんでした。

The bar in Kirkwall had five tables and a fire. Polly sat near the heat. "Can I see the menu?" she asked. There were only a few things on the card.

「おすすめの料理はありますか。」主人はアオサギでした。バノックですよ、と言いました。ベア大麦はここで何百年も作られてきた麦です。短い夏でも早く実ります。

"Could you recommend a good dish?" The owner was a heron. She said the bannock. Bere is a barley grown here for hundreds of years. It grows fast, in a short summer.

「ベジタリアン向けの料理はありますか。」とポリーは聞きました。アオサギは同じ行を指しました。バノックとバターと柔らかいチーズです。

"Do you have vegetarian options?" Polly asked. The heron pointed at the same line. Bannock, butter and soft cheese.

「お会計をお願いします。」とポリーは言いました。アオサギはゆっくり伝票を持ってきました。それはいいしるしです。外は風がほとんどありませんでした。ポリーは赤い大聖堂まで歩きました。

"Can we get the bill, please?" Polly said. The heron took her time, which is a good sign. Outside, the wind was almost calm. Polly walked up to the red cathedral.
