Birtija u Kirkwallu imala je pet stolova i vatru. Polly je sjela blizu topline. „Mogu li vidjeti jelovnik?” pitala je. Na kartici je bilo samo nekoliko jela.

The bar in Kirkwall had five tables and a fire. Polly sat near the heat. "Can I see the menu?" she asked. There were only a few things on the card.

„Možete li mi preporučiti dobro jelo?” Vlasnica je bila čaplja. Rekla je bannock. Bere je ječam koji ovdje uzgajaju stotinama godina. Raste brzo, u kratkom ljetu.

"Could you recommend a good dish?" The owner was a heron. She said the bannock. Bere is a barley grown here for hundreds of years. It grows fast, in a short summer.

„Imate li vegetarijanska jela?” pitala je Polly. Čaplja je pokazala na isti redak. Bannock, maslac i meki sir.

"Do you have vegetarian options?" Polly asked. The heron pointed at the same line. Bannock, butter and soft cheese.

„Možemo li dobiti račun, molim vas?” rekla je Polly. Čaplja se nije žurila, što je dobar znak. Vani je vjetar bio gotovo miran. Polly je otišla gore do crvene katedrale.

"Can we get the bill, please?" Polly said. The heron took her time, which is a good sign. Outside, the wind was almost calm. Polly walked up to the red cathedral.
