一人用のテーブル

ミアは九時に小さなレストランに入ります。店はほとんど空いています。疲れた様子のウェイターが、白いエプロンをつけて、隅のテーブルを指します。

Mia goes into a small restaurant at nine. The room is almost empty. A tired waiter in a white apron points to a table in the corner.

"お一人ですか"と彼は聞きます。ミアははいと答えます。彼女はいつも一人で旅行します。少し緊張しています。メニューは小さな紙一枚です。

"Just one?" he asks. Mia says yes. She always travels alone. She is a little nervous. The menu is on one small piece of paper.

ミアはある言葉を指さします。その言葉を知りません。ウェイターは笑います。"おすすめです"と彼はゆっくり言います。"祖母の料理です。もし気に入らなければ、別のものを持ってきます"

Mia points at a word. She does not know it. The waiter smiles. "The special," he says slowly. "My grandmother's food. If you do not like it, I bring something else."

料理は重いボウルに入って出てきます。熱くて、にんにくと小さなパンのかけらが入っています。ミアは食べてみます。ウェイターはバーからミアを見ています。

The food comes in a heavy bowl. It is hot, with garlic and little pieces of bread. Mia tries it. The waiter watches her from the bar.

ミアは彼に親指を立てます。彼は笑って、また彼女のグラスを満たします。"よかった"と彼は言います。"明日も来てください。そうしたら、中身を教えます"

Mia gives him a thumbs up. He laughs and fills her glass again. "Good," he says. "Come back tomorrow. Then I tell you what is in it."
