La città che mette l'oro sul gelato

Questo gelato è oro vero. Manda questo al tuo amico goloso. In Giappone c'è un'antica città che si chiama Kanazawa. Lì compri un normale gelato soft, e poi qualcuno ci avvolge intorno un intero foglio d'oro.

This ice cream is real gold. Send this to your friend with a sweet tooth. In Japan there is an old city called Kanazawa. You buy a normal soft ice cream there, and then somebody wraps a whole sheet of gold around it.

L'oro viene battuto finché non è piatto piatto. È più sottile di un capello. Si muove al minimo soffio di vento, quindi chi lavora deve essere lento e silenzioso e non può respirarci vicino. Quasi tutta la foglia d'oro del Giappone si fa in questa sola città, e qui la fanno da più di quattrocento anni.

The gold is beaten until it is very flat. It is thinner than a hair. It moves in the smallest breath of wind, so the workers must be slow and quiet and cannot breathe near it. Almost all of the gold leaf in Japan is made in this one city, and people have made it here for more than four hundred years.

Si può mangiare. L'oro non fa male e non ha quasi nessun sapore. Così il gelato sa di gelato. Sembra soltanto un tesoro. La gente lo alza, la luce ci batte sopra e tutta la strada si gira a guardare. Poi lo mangiano troppo piano, oppure il vento lo trova, e l'oro scivola giù in mezzo alla strada, e ridono tutti.

You can eat it. Gold is safe, and it has almost no taste at all. So the ice cream tastes like ice cream. It only looks like treasure. People hold it up, the light hits it, and the whole street turns to look. Then they eat it too slowly, or the wind finds it, and the gold slides off into the road, and everybody laughs.
