De stad die goud op ijs doet
Kanazawa in Japan makes almost all of the country's gold leaf, and wraps whole sheets of it around soft ice cream.

Dit ijsje is echt goud. Stuur dit naar je vriend met een zoetekauw. In Japan ligt een oude stad genaamd Kanazawa. Je koopt daar een gewoon soft-ijsje, en dan wikkelt iemand er een heel vel goud omheen.
Het goud wordt zo plat geslagen dat het dunner is dan een haar. Het beweegt bij de kleinste zucht wind, dus de werkers moeten langzaam en stil zijn en mogen er niet dichtbij ademen. Bijna al het bladgoud in Japan wordt in deze ene stad gemaakt, en mensen maken het hier al meer dan vierhonderd jaar.
Je kunt het opeten. Goud is veilig, en het smaakt bijna nergens naar. Dus het ijsje smaakt gewoon naar ijs. Het lijkt alleen op een schat. Mensen houden het omhoog, het licht valt erop, en de hele straat kijkt om. Dan eten ze het te langzaam, of de wind vindt het, en het goud glijdt eraf de weg op, en iedereen lacht.
