O gato que pega o ônibus

Toda manhã, quando o ônibus para na esquina, um gatinho sobe. Ele não espera por ninguém. Ele sobe os degraus sozinho, devagar e calmo, como um passageiro que faz isso todos os dias. O motorista sorri e abre as portas um pouco mais. O gato caminha pelo corredor e encontra o seu lugar.

Every morning, when the bus stops near the corner, a small cat steps up. He does not wait for anyone. He climbs the steps by himself, slow and calm, like a passenger who does this every day. The driver smiles and opens the doors a little wider. The cat walks down the middle and finds his spot.

Ele sempre senta no mesmo assento da janela. Ele fica sentado direito e olha para a rua. Carros, pessoas e lojas passam rápido. O gato observa tudo com olhos calmos. Alguns passageiros riem baixinho e tiram fotos. Outros apenas dizem bom dia para ele. Os passageiros fixos já sabem o nome dele, e deixam o assento livre.

He always sits on the same window seat. He sits up straight and looks at the street. Cars, people, and shops go by fast. The cat watches them with quiet eyes. Some passengers laugh softly and take photos. Others just say good morning to him. The regulars know his name now, and they leave the seat free.

Quando o ônibus chega ao ponto dele, o gato se levanta. Ele espera perto das portas, paciente e seguro. As portas abrem com um som suave. O gato desce para a calçada e caminha para longe, para dentro da manhã. O motorista fecha as portas e segue em frente. Amanhã, na mesma esquina, o pequeno passageiro vai estar esperando de novo.

When the bus reaches his stop, the cat stands up. He waits by the doors, patient and sure. The doors open with a soft sound. The cat steps down to the sidewalk and walks away into the morning. The driver closes the doors and drives on. Tomorrow, at the same corner, the little passenger will be waiting again.
