꿀벌은 어떻게 꿀을 만들까요

꿀벌은 작지만, 아주 열심히 일해요. 일벌은 하루 종일 꽃에서 꽃으로 날아가요. 긴 혀로 꽃에서 단물을 마셔요. 이 단물을 꿀물이라고 불러요. 벌은 그것을 특별한 배 속에 넣고 다녀요.

Honeybees are small, but they work very hard. A worker bee flies from flower to flower all day. It drinks the sweet juice from the flowers with its long tongue. This sweet juice is called nectar, and the bee keeps it in a special stomach.

벌집에 돌아오면, 벌은 다른 벌에게 꿀물을 줘요. 벌들은 입에서 입으로 꿀물을 전해요. 그리고 몸에서 나오는 것을 조금 더해요. 그다음 꿀물을 작은 밀랍 방에 넣어요. 벌들은 날개를 빠르게 움직여서 꿀물을 말려요. 그러면 꿀물은 천천히 걸쭉한 꿀이 돼요.

Back at the hive, the bee gives the nectar to other bees. They pass it from mouth to mouth and add a little something from their bodies. Then they put the nectar into small wax rooms. The bees move their wings fast to dry it, and slowly the nectar becomes thick honey.

꿀이 다 되면, 벌들은 작은 방마다 부드러운 밀랍 뚜껑을 덮어요. 이제 이 꿀은 추운 겨울에 온 벌집의 음식이 돼요. 벌 한 마리는 평생 아주 작은 한 방울만 만들어요. 그래서 벌들은 함께 일해서 벌집을 채워야 해요.

When the honey is ready, the bees close each little room with a soft wax lid. The honey is now food for the whole hive in the cold winter. One small bee makes only a tiny drop in its life, so the bees must work together to fill the hive.
