La tazza vuota

È il primo giorno di Pedro. Riceve una scrivania. Riceve un computer portatile. Tutti vanno a una riunione.

It is Pedro's first day. He gets a desk. He gets a laptop. Everyone goes to a meeting.

La scrivania è pulita. C'è una tazza bianca. Pensa: forse è un regalo. Ha sete.

The desk is clean. There is one white cup. He thinks: maybe it is a gift. He is thirsty.

Pedro va in cucina. Riempie la tazza con l'acqua. Si siede. Un uomo con la barba sta alla porta.

Pedro goes to the kitchen. He fills the cup with water. He sits down. A bearded man stands at the door.

"Prima questa era la mia scrivania," dice. Sorride. "Sono Diego. Benvenuto."

"This was my desk before," he says. He smiles. "I am Diego. Welcome."

La faccia di Pedro diventa rossa. Restituisce la tazza. Diego ride. "Tienila," dice. "Ma chiedi della macchina del caffè."

Pedro's face turns red. He gives the cup back. Diego laughs. "Keep it," he says. "But ask about the coffee machine."

Più tardi, Diego gli mostra la macchina del caffè. Ci vogliono dieci minuti.

Later, Diego shows him the coffee machine. It takes ten minutes.
