Du sitzt in einem kleinen Kleinbus mit vierzehn anderen Menschen. Es gibt keine Klingel. Es gibt keinen Bildschirm mit dem Namen der nächsten Haltestelle. Der Fahrer hat keine Liste, und niemand wird dir helfen.

You are in a small van with fourteen other people. There is no bell. There is no screen with the name of the next stop. The driver does not have a list, and nobody is going to help you.

Das ist ein Sammelbus, und in vielen Ländern funktioniert das genauso. Er fährt los, wenn er voll ist. Er hält, wo jemand darum bittet. Deine Aufgabe ist es, laut etwas zu sagen, bevor deine Straße am Fenster vorbeizieht.

This is a shared bus, and in many countries it works the same way. It leaves when it is full. It stops where somebody asks it to stop. Your job is to say something out loud before your street goes past the window.

Du brauchst nur zwei oder drei Wörter. Du sagst den Namen der Ecke, oder du sagst einfach: hier ist gut, bitte. Wenn du wartest, bis du deine eigene Tür sehen kannst, ist es schon zu spät. Sag es früh, sag es laut, und sag es noch einmal, wenn dich beim ersten Mal niemand hört. Die Frau neben dir wird es für dich wiederholen, wenn du verloren aussiehst. Das kommt öfter vor, als man denkt.

You only need two or three words. You say the name of the corner, or you simply say: here is good, please. If you wait until you can see your own door, you are already too late. Say it early, say it loudly, and say it again if nobody hears you the first time. The woman next to you will repeat it for you if you look lost. That happens more often than you would think.
