Der Regen entschied für Polly. Er fing mitten auf dem Platz an, und die nächste Tür gehörte zu einem Eckcafé mit beschlagenen Fenstern und einer gestreiften Markise, von der es langsam tropfte. „Hallo, guten Tag!“ Ein Dachs mit Fliege sah von der Kaffeemaschine auf, als wären Besuche an Regentagen seine liebsten.
„Einen Milchkaffee, bitte. Nicht zu heiß, wenn es geht.“ Der Dachs nickte wie jemand, der den Auftrag sehr ernst nimmt, und schob dann wortlos eine Vitrine nach vorn. Darin warteten sie, golden und gezuckert, die berühmten. „Haben Sie Churros? Alle reden davon.“ Er tat beleidigt, dass die Frage überhaupt nötig war. „Zum Hiertrinken, bitte. Ich möchte eine Weile am Fenster sitzen.“
Der Fensterplatz kam mit dem Geräusch des Regens und einer Parade eiliger Regenschirme. Polly tunkte, probierte und verstand das ganze Viertel ein bisschen besser. „Die Rechnung, bitte. Was schulde ich Ihnen?“ Die Zahl war klein; die Entdeckung nicht. „Wie lecker! Morgen komme ich bestimmt wieder.“ Der Dachs polierte nur eine Tasse und lächelte, denn das hatte er schon oft gehört, und es stimmte immer.
