La lluvia decidió por Polly. Empezó a mitad de la plaza, y la puerta más cercana era un café de esquina con las ventanas empañadas y un toldo de rayas que goteaba despacio. "¡Hola, buenas tardes!" Un tejón con pajarita levantó la vista de la cafetera como si las visitas en días de lluvia fueran sus favoritas.
"Un café con leche, por favor. No muy caliente, si puede ser." El tejón asintió como quien toma el encargo muy en serio, y luego acercó una vitrina sin decir nada. Dentro, dorados y con azúcar, esperaban los famosos. "¿Tienen churros? Todo el mundo habla de ellos." Él fingió ofenderse de que la pregunta fuera necesaria. "Para tomar aquí, por favor. Quiero sentarme un rato junto a la ventana."
La mesa de la ventana venía con el sonido de la lluvia y un desfile de paraguas con prisa. Polly mojó, probó, y entendió el barrio entero un poco mejor. "La cuenta, por favor. ¿Cuánto le debo?" El número era pequeño; el descubrimiento, no. "¡Qué rico! Mañana vuelvo, seguro." El tejón se limitó a secar una taza y sonreír, porque ya había oído eso antes, y siempre era verdad.
