Polly says goodbye to Pasta the octopus and flies out of Naples.

Am siebten Morgen kam Polly früh zum Aquarium. Das Labor war still.
Pasta war vorne im Aquarium. Das war neu. Sechs Tage lang hatte sich der Oktopus in ihrem Rohr oder in einer Ecke versteckt. Heute drückte sie sich gegen das Glas. Alle acht Arme waren ausgestreckt. Ihr Auge war auf gleicher Höhe mit Pollys.
Sie schauten sich an.
Was zwischen einem Papagei und einem Oktopus passiert, ist wahrscheinlich keine Freundschaft. Oktopusse können Wärme durch ihre Haut spüren. Sie können Bewegungen durch ihre Saugnäpfe wahrnehmen. Der Oktopus sammelte Informationen.
Polly hüpfte am Rand entlang. Das Auge des Oktopus folgte ihr. Als Polly stoppte, stoppte auch das Auge.
Sie beobachteten sich sieben Minuten lang.
Dann tat der Oktopus etwas Neues. Sie entfaltete langsam einen Arm. Sie drückte die Spitze davon gegen die Innenseite des Glases, genau gegenüber von Pollys Fuß. Die Saugnäpfe breiteten sich aus und verharrten dann.
Polly berührte das Glas von außen mit ihrem Schnabel.
Der Arm blieb eine lange Minute. Dann glitt er zurück ins Wasser.
Chiara kam mit zwei Kaffees herein. "Du gehst," sagte sie. "Reise sicher."
Polly flog aus dem Institut. Die Bucht von Neapel öffnete sich vor ihr. Sie stieg auf und fand den Wind.
