Polly says goodbye to Ranger Tomas and flies west out of Yosemite.

Tomas, der Ranger, kam bei Sonnenaufgang zum Besucherzentrum. Er hatte eine Thermoskanne mit Kaffee dabei. Er setzte sich auf eine Bank neben Polly.
Sie sprachen nicht viel. Polly putzte ihre Federn. Der Morgen roch nach dem Fluss.
"Du gehst weg", sagte Tomas.
Polly legte den Kopf schief.
Er erzählte ihr vom Rest des Parks. Das Hochland mit seinen Seen. Ein weiteres Tal im Norden. Ein Hain mit hohen Bäumen.
"Dieser Ort ist zu groß, um ihn in drei Tagen zu sehen", sagte er. "Man sieht nur Teile."
Polly dachte an ihre Sprünge von der Klippe. Keiner war wirklich gut. Aber jeder wurde ein bisschen besser. Sie konnte ihr ganzes Leben lang besser werden.
Der grüne Shuttlebus kam zurück. Der gleiche Fahrer. Tomas stand auf. "Auf geht's", sagte er.
Polly streckte ihre Flügel. Sie hob sich von der Bank. Sie kreiste um das Besucherzentrum. Sie stieg höher.
Das Tal fiel unter ihr ab. El Capitan war zu ihrer Linken. Half Dome war zu ihrer Rechten.
Am Rand drehte sie nach Westen. Unter ihr jagte ein Wanderfalke kleine Mauersegler entlang der Klippe. Polly schaute zu. Dann fand sie den Wind und ließ sich aus dem Park tragen.
