Le cercle et le bateau du matin

Le Ring of Brodgar se dresse entre deux lochs. Les pierres font un cercle d'environ cent quatre mètres de diamètre. Les gens l'ont construit il y a environ quatre mille ans.

The Ring of Brodgar stands between two lochs. The stones make a circle about one hundred and four metres across. People built it about four thousand years ago.

Il y avait une soixantaine de pierres autrefois. Trente-six sont encore debout. Polly a fait le tour par l'extérieur. Personne n'a écrit pourquoi le cercle est là.

There were around sixty stones once. Thirty-six are standing now. Polly walked around the outside. Nobody wrote down why the circle is there.

Puis il a été temps de partir. Au bureau du port, il y avait un cormoran huppé derrière un comptoir. "À quelle heure part le ferry ?" a demandé Polly. "Combien cela coûte-t-il ?" Puis elle a dit : "Je voudrais acheter un billet, s'il vous plaît."

Then it was time to leave. At the harbour office there was a shag behind a counter. "What time does the ferry leave?" Polly asked. "How much does this cost?" Then she said, "I would like to buy a ticket, please."

"Combien de temps dure la traversée ?" a-t-elle demandé en dernier. Au matin, le bateau est sorti en doublant le promontoire bas. Les îles se sont couchées derrière lui, une à une.

"How long does the crossing take?" she asked last. In the morning the boat went out past the low headland. The islands went down behind it, one by one.
