Ova ptica spava dok leti

Fregata može letjeti mnogo dana. Leti iznad otvorenog mora. Ne može sletjeti na vodu. Pa kada spava?

A frigatebird can fly for many days. It flies over the open sea. It cannot land on the water. So when does it sleep?

Znanstvenici stavljaju male uređaje na ptice. Ptice lete i do deset dana. Spavaju dok lete. Pola mozga spava. Jedno oko ostaje otvoreno.

Scientists put small machines on the birds. The birds fly for up to ten days. They sleep while they fly. Half the brain sleeps. One eye stays open.

To je iznenađujuće. Na moru, ptice spavaju samo četrdeset minuta dnevno. Na kopnu, spavaju više od dvanaest sati. Puno se odmaraju kod kuće.

This is surprising. At sea, birds sleep only forty minutes a day. On land, they sleep more than twelve hours. They rest a lot at home.
