구십 초짜리 비행

이 비행은 구십 초 동안 계속돼요. 비행기를 무서워하는 친구를 태그하세요. 스코틀랜드 북쪽 끝에는 회색 바다 위에 작고 초록색인 섬들이 있어요. 그중 두 섬은 웨스트레이와 파파 웨스트레이예요. 아주 작은 비행기가 그 사이를 날아요.

This flight lasts ninety seconds. Tag the friend who hates flying. In the far north of Scotland there are small green islands in a grey sea. Two of them are called Westray and Papa Westray. A very small plane flies between them.

그 비행기는 아주 작아요. 사람을 열 명도 못 태워요. 앞에 벽이 없어서, 승객들은 조종사가 일하는 모습을 봐요. 활주로는 짧아요. 풀과 자갈, 그리고 풍향기가 있어요. 옆 들판에는 양들이 서 있어요. 비행기는 올라가고, 조금 돌고, 다시 내려와요. 전체 거리는 삼 킬로미터도 안 돼요.

The plane is tiny. It carries fewer than ten people. There is no wall in front, so the passengers watch the pilot work. The runway is short. It is grass and gravel and a windsock, and sheep stand in the field beside it. The plane goes up, turns a little, and comes down again. The whole trip is under three kilometres.

시간표에는 일 분 삼십 초라고 적혀 있어요. 보통 그것보다 더 빨라요. 가장 빠른 비행은 오십삼 초였어요. 이 이야기보다 짧아요. 섬에 사는 사람들은 이걸 특별하다고 생각하지 않아요. 그들에게는 그냥 옆 섬으로 가는 버스예요. 하지만 다른 모든 사람에게는, 세상에서 가장 짧은 비행이에요.

The timetable says one and a half minutes. Most days it is faster than that. The fastest flight ever took fifty-three seconds, which is shorter than this story. The people who live on the islands do not think it is special. For them it is just the bus to the next island. For everybody else, it is the shortest flight in the world.
