In nineteen forty-seven, engineers found an actual moth stuck inside a giant computer, taped it into their logbook, and helped make the word bug a part of computer language.

ある機械の中には、本物の虫がいました。身近にいるプログラマーに、これを送ろう。千九百四十七年、世界初期の大型コンピューターの一台が、突然正しく動かなくなりました。誰も原因を見つけられませんでした。
技術者たちは、機械の巨大なスイッチと配線の壁を隅々まで調べ、ついに原因を見つけました。二つの金属接点の間に挟まっていたのは、死んだ蛾でした。彼らはそれを取り除き、その体を記録ノートにテープで貼り付け、機械の中で本物の虫が見つかったと短いメモを書き添えました。
"バグ"という言葉は、その日より前から機械の小さな不具合を指していましたが、テープで貼られたその蛾はそれでも有名になり、今でも博物館に保管されています。それ以来、実際に虫がいるかどうかにかかわらず、コンピューターの不具合を直すことは"デバッグ"と呼ばれています。
