Nei fiumi delle Hawaii vive un piccolo pesce. Si chiama ghiozzo scalatore. È più piccolo del tuo dito. Ma questo piccolo pesce fa una cosa incredibile: scala le cascate.
Il ghiozzo nasce nel fiume, in alto tra le montagne. Dopo la nascita, l'acqua porta il piccolo pesce giù, fino al mare. Quando è più grande, deve tornare su, nell'acqua calma della montagna. C'è solo una strada: verso l'alto. Il ghiozzo tiene la roccia bagnata con la bocca. La bocca funziona come una piccola ventosa. Ha anche un'altra ventosa sulla pancia. Bocca, pancia, bocca, pancia. Centimetro dopo centimetro, sale dritto sulla roccia, dietro l'acqua che cade.
Alcune cascate sono più alte di un palazzo di venti piani. Per un pesce così piccolo, è come una persona che scala una montagna alta molti chilometri. Il ghiozzo non ha fretta. Ma non si ferma mai.
