Diese Garnele ist gefährlicher, als sie aussieht. Schick das an jemanden, der kleine Dinge unterschätzt. In warmen, flachen Meeren lebt eine Garnele, kaum so lang wie ein Finger, mit einer überdimensionierten Schere, die wie eine gespannte Feder bereitsteht.
Wenn die Garnele ihre Schere zuschnappen lässt, geschieht das so schnell, dass sie ihr Ziel nicht einfach nur trifft. Dabei entsteht im Wasser eine Blase, die fast augenblicklich in sich zusammenfällt, und für den Bruchteil einer Sekunde erreicht das Innere dieser kollabierenden Blase eine Temperatur, die der Oberfläche der Sonne nahekommt. Allein das Geräusch ist lauter als ein Schuss, laut genug, um kleine Fische in der Nähe zu betäuben oder zu töten.
An der Garnele selbst wird nichts heiß. Die Hitze und das Geräusch entstehen beide in der Blase und sind verschwunden, bevor man sie überhaupt spüren könnte. Taucher, die in der Nähe von Korallenriffen arbeiten, hören das Knacken oft, bevor sie auch nur eine einzige Garnele sehen.
