ब्रोडगार का घेरा दो झीलों के बीच ज़मीन की एक पतली पट्टी पर है। पत्थर क़रीब एक सौ चार मीटर चौड़े एक घेरे में खड़े हैं। इसके चारों तरफ़ ठोस चट्टान काटकर एक खाई बनाई गई थी। यह चार से साढ़े चार हज़ार साल पहले बनाया गया था। यह एक विश्व धरोहर स्थल का हिस्सा है।
कभी यहाँ क़रीब साठ पत्थर थे। अब छत्तीस खड़े हैं। ख़ाली जगहें भी उतनी ही इस आकार का हिस्सा हैं जितने पत्थर। पॉली ने घेरे का चक्कर बाहर से लगाया, घुटनों तक हीदर की झाड़ियाँ थीं और पानी पर रोशनी चपटी होती जा रही थी। यहाँ कुछ भी किसी सैलानी के लिए नहीं सजाया गया था।
फिर जाने का वही मामूली कामकाज आया। बंदरगाह के दफ़्तर में काउंटर के पीछे एक जलकाग बैठा था। "फेरी कितने बजे रवाना होती है?" पॉली ने पूछा। "इसकी क़ीमत कितनी है?" उसने उसके साथ छपे हुए पर्चे को देखा। "मुझे एक टिकट लेनी है, कृपया।"
"समुद्र पार करने में कितना समय लगता है?" उसने आख़िर में पूछा। उसने टिकट रख ली। सुबह नाव उसी नीची भूशिर के पास से बाहर निकली, और टापू एक एक करके पीछे डूबते गए।
