خسر جيش يوما أمام طيور. ففي الأشهر الأخيرة من عام ألف وتسعمئة واثنين وثلاثين، وجد مزارعو القمح في غرب أستراليا محصولهم تحت هجوم طيور الإيمو، وهي طيور طويلة لا تطير هبطت على المنطقة بالآلاف بحثا عن الماء، فوجدت بدلا من ذلك حقولا من الحبوب.
