Bläckfisken och dess tre hjärtan

Bläckfisken är ett mjukt djur som lever i havet. Den har åtta armar och inga ben. Men det mest överraskande finns inuti kroppen. Bläckfisken har tre hjärtan, inte ett.

The octopus is a soft animal that lives in the sea. It has eight arms and no bones. But the most surprising thing is inside its body. The octopus has three hearts, not one.

Två av hjärtana pumpar blod till gälarna. Där tar blodet upp syre från vattnet. Det tredje hjärtat skickar sedan detta blod till resten av kroppen, så att bläckfisken får energi att röra sig.

Two of the hearts push blood to the gills. There the blood takes in oxygen from the water. The third heart then sends this blood to the rest of the body, so the octopus has energy to move.

En bläckfisks blod är blått, inte rött. Det är blått för att det innehåller koppar. Det här speciella blodet hjälper bläckfisken att leva i kallt, djupt vatten. När bläckfisken simmar stannar dess huvudhjärta, så den går hellre på havsbotten istället.

The blood of an octopus is blue, not red. It is blue because it has copper inside. This special blood helps the octopus live in cold, deep water. When the octopus swims, its main heart stops, so it likes to walk on the sea floor instead.
