Este pueblo entero vive bajo techo. Mándaselo a quien siempre se queja de sus vecinos. En Alaska, junto a una bahía gris y fría, hay un pueblo llamado Whittier, y casi todos sus habitantes viven en el mismo edificio.
El edificio tiene catorce plantas y se construyó hace mucho para el ejército. Ahora tiene pisos, una tienda, una oficina de correos, una comisaría, un pequeño consultorio y una iglesia. El alcalde, el médico y la persona que te vende la leche viven unos encima de otros. Cuando nieva, y nieva muchísimo, nadie tiene que salir a la calle. Los niños llegan al colegio por un túnel bajo el suelo.
Entrar en el pueblo es todavía más raro. Los coches pasan por un único túnel estrecho excavado a través de una montaña, y ese túnel se comparte con los trenes, así que todos van por turnos. De noche se cierra y ya no entra ni sale nadie. El pueblo simplemente se queda donde está, caliente e iluminado, un edificio alto en la nieve con montañas alrededor.
