Polly watches one last sunrise with Berta and follows the river out of town.

Nel suo ultimo mattino, Polly sale ancora una volta alla torre di guardia. Berta è già lì. È strano, perché Berta odia salire. Qualcuno deve controllare l'alba, dice la faina. Si siedono insieme sulle vecchie pietre e guardano.

Berta dice che non le piacciono gli addii. Poi ne fa uno comunque. Regala a Polly un fico secco per il viaggio. Una città come questa non si arrabbia quando parti, dice. Partire è la prima metà del tornare.
Polly vola dalla torre e segue il fiume fuori dalla gola. Dietro di lei, la città rosa diventa sempre più piccola. Tiene il fico per dopo. Lo mangerà lontano, quando vorrà ricordare questo posto.
