Abschied im ersten Licht
Polly watches one last sunrise with Berta and follows the river out of town.

An ihrem letzten Morgen klettert Polly noch einmal zum Wachturm. Berta ist schon da. Das ist seltsam, denn Berta hasst Klettern. Jemand muss den Sonnenaufgang prüfen, sagt der Marder. Sie sitzen zusammen auf den alten Steinen und schauen.
Das erste Licht berührt den Turm. Dann wandert es die Mauer hinunter und über die Dächer. Für ein paar Minuten glüht die ganze Stadt rosa und golden. Weit weg auf den Wiesen hört Polly die Schafsglocken. Unten hält der Fluss die Stadt in seiner Schleife, wie immer.
Berta sagt, sie mag keine Abschiede. Dann sagt sie doch auf Wiedersehen. Sie gibt Polly eine getrocknete Feige für die Reise. Eine Stadt wie diese ist nicht traurig, wenn du gehst, sagt sie. Gehen ist die erste Hälfte von Wiederkommen.
Polly fliegt vom Turm und folgt dem Fluss durch die Schlucht hinaus. Hinter ihr wird die rosa Stadt kleiner und kleiner. Die Feige hebt sie für später auf. Sie wird sie weit weg essen, wenn sie sich an diesen Ort erinnern will.
