Alcune spiagge brillano al buio. Non per le lampade, non per la luna. L'acqua stessa si accende, blu elettrico, ogni volta che un'onda si rompe sulla sabbia. La luce viene da miliardi di minuscole creature del mare, troppo piccole per vederle una a una. Quando l'acqua intorno a loro si muove, i loro corpi fanno un rapido lampo di luce blu, un po' come una lucciola del mare. Gli scienziati la chiamano luce vivente.
