The Village Under the Storm

"Can you tell me how to get there?" Polly asked at breakfast. Follow the coast road west, the sheep said. The village sits behind a bay of pale sand.

"क्या आप बता सकते हैं कि वहाँ कैसे पहुँचा जाए?" पॉली ने नाश्ते पर पूछा। तट वाली सड़क पर पश्चिम जाओ, भेड़ ने कहा। गाँव हल्की रेत वाली खाड़ी के पीछे है।

An oystercatcher was at the site. Polly asked, "I would like to know the history of this particular monument." People lived here five thousand years ago, he said. Then sand covered the village.

एक ऑयस्टरकैचर वहाँ था। पॉली ने पूछा, "मैं इस ख़ास स्मारक का इतिहास जानना चाहती हूँ।" यहाँ लोग पाँच हज़ार साल पहले रहते थे, उसने कहा। फिर रेत ने गाँव को ढक लिया।

The wind took half his words. "Could you please repeat that for me?" Polly asked. Every house is the same inside. A fire in the middle. Beds at each side. A stone shelf on the wall.

हवा उसके आधे शब्द उड़ा ले गई। "क्या आप कृपया इसे दोहरा सकते हैं?" पॉली ने पूछा। हर घर अंदर से एक जैसा है। बीच में आग। दोनों तरफ़ बिस्तर। दीवार पर पत्थर की एक अलमारी।

"Could you tell me if the museum is open tomorrow?" Polly asked. She knew she would come back. She looked into one room for a long time.

"क्या आप बता सकते हैं कि कल संग्रहालय खुला रहेगा?" पॉली ने पूछा। उसे पता था कि वह लौटेगी। वह एक कमरे को देर तक देखती रही।
