Auf der Internationalen Raumstation gibt es eine ganz besondere Maschine. Sie ist ungefähr so groß wie ein kleiner Kühlschrank, aber sie macht große Wissenschaft. Die Wissenschaftler nennen sie das Kalte-Atome-Labor.
Dieses Labor macht winzige Atome sehr, sehr kalt. Im Weltall gibt es fast keine Schwerkraft, deshalb bewegen sich die kalten Atome auf eine seltsame und langsame Art. Das Labor kann sie länger beobachten als Labore auf der Erde, und das hilft den Wissenschaftlern sehr.
Im Juni zweitausendsechsundzwanzig teilte die NASA eine Neuigkeit über ein neues und besseres Teil für das Labor mit. Damit hoffen die Wissenschaftler, mehr darüber zu lernen, wie die Welt funktioniert. Fünf Teams aus verschiedenen Ländern nutzen das Labor gemeinsam und tauschen ihre Ergebnisse aus.
