The Lake That Disappears Every Summer

This lake vanishes on purpose. Send this to a friend who loses things all the time. In Slovenia there is a lake that is not always there. In winter it is one of the biggest lakes in the country. In summer it is gone.

この湖は、わざと消えます。いつも物をなくす友達に送ろう。スロベニアには、いつもあるわけではない湖があります。冬には、国内で一番大きな湖の一つです。夏には、消えてしまいます。

The ground under the valley is full of holes and tunnels in the rock. In autumn, water drains down through these holes until the valley is dry. In winter, rain and melting snow push back up through the same holes, and the lake fills again, sometimes in just a few days.

谷の下の地面には、岩の穴やトンネルがたくさんあります。秋になると、水はこの穴を通って流れ落ち、谷は乾きます。冬になると、雨と雪解け水が同じ穴を通って上がってきて、湖はまた満ちます。時には、たった数日でいっぱいになります。

When the water is high, people row boats and watch birds on the lake. When the water is low, farmers walk out and cut hay on the same ground. Old writers wrote about this strange lake two thousand years ago, and it still confuses visitors today.

水が多いとき、人々はボートを漕いで、湖で鳥を見ます。水が少ないとき、農家の人たちは同じ場所を歩いて、干し草を刈ります。昔の作家たちは、二千年前にこの不思議な湖について書きました。今でも、訪れる人たちを困らせています。
