The Town Inside the River's Arm

Polly follows a river through dry hills in the east of Spain. The river turns left and right between high rocks. Then it makes one big loop, like an arm holding something. Inside the loop there is a town. Its pink houses climb the hill in rows, one above the other.

Polly sigue un río por unas colinas secas en el este de España. El río gira a la izquierda y a la derecha entre rocas altas. Después hace una gran curva, como un brazo que abraza algo. Dentro de la curva hay un pueblo. Sus casas rosadas suben por la colina en filas, una encima de otra.

The town is called Albarracín. Only about a thousand people live here. The houses are pink and orange, with wooden balconies that hang over the narrow streets. High above the roofs, a stone wall climbs up the mountain. It looks much too big for such a small town.

El pueblo se llama Albarracín. Aquí viven solo unas mil personas. Las casas son rosadas y naranjas, con balcones de madera sobre las calles estrechas. Muy por encima de los tejados, una muralla de piedra sube por la montaña. Parece demasiado grande para un pueblo tan pequeño.

Polly flies over the roofs and lands in the main square. It is very small, almost like a room. There is a little fountain in one corner. She smells fresh bread coming from an open door. Far away, up in the mountains, she hears a sheep bell.

Polly vuela sobre los tejados y aterriza en la plaza mayor. Es muy pequeña, casi como una habitación. Hay una pequeña fuente en una esquina. Polly huele pan recién hecho detrás de una puerta abierta. A lo lejos, en las montañas, oye un cencerro de oveja.

The sun goes down and the lamps come on. The pink walls now look warm, like the last light of a fire. Polly sits on the fountain and watches it all. Tomorrow she will explore the streets. Tonight the little town goes to sleep inside the river's arm.

El sol se pone y las farolas se encienden. Los muros rosados ahora parecen cálidos, como la última luz de un fuego. Polly se sienta en la fuente y lo mira todo. Mañana va a explorar las calles. Esta noche el pequeño pueblo se duerme dentro del brazo del río.
