One morning, the birds shared big news. The ground had opened in the south. Polly flew toward an orange glow. She found a long, glowing crack in the earth. Hot liquid rock shot up from it. The heat was strong, so Polly stayed far away. Her green body glowed orange.
This was the secret from her first day. The two great plates were pulling apart. New rock filled the gap from deep below. Here you can watch new land being born.
The hot rock cooled into black stone. Nothing grows on it at first. Later, soft moss comes. But it grows very slowly. One footstep can hurt it for years. So please never step on the moss.
Polly stayed on a safe rock until dark. The island was making more of itself.
That's the story.
