Los caballos del arroyo

Al cuarto día, Polly oyó un trueno. Pero el cielo estaba azul. Miró hacia abajo. Unos caballos corrían en la arena.

On the fourth day, Polly heard thunder. But the sky was blue. She looked down. Horses were running on the sand.

Polly voló al lado de un caballo joven y marrón. ¿A dónde vas?, preguntó. A ningún lugar, dijo el caballo. Solo corremos aquí. Los caballos han vivido en este cañón por mucho tiempo.

Polly flew next to a young brown horse. Where are you going, she asked. Nowhere, said the horse. We just run here. Horses have lived in this canyon for a long time.

La arena era suave y plana. Era perfecta para correr. El sonido pegaba en una pared y volvía por la otra pared. Veinte caballos sonaban como doscientos.

The sand was soft and flat. It was perfect for running. The sound hit one wall and came back off the other wall. Twenty horses sounded like two hundred.

Luego los caballos se detuvieron. Un pequeño arroyo corría por la arena. Bebieron el agua. Polly se sentó junto a ellos y no dijo nada.

Then the horses stopped. A small stream ran through the sand. They drank the water. Polly sat next to them and said nothing.
