Холм, полный ям

Холм над деревней полон ям. Люди выкопали их вручную. Ямы уходят прямо вниз, в землю.

The hill above the village is full of holes. People dug them by hand. The holes go straight down into the ground.

Ям здесь около двух тысяч. Возле каждой ямы есть верёвка и ведро.

There are about two thousand holes. Next to every hole there is a rope and a bucket.

Шахтёры не используют машины. Машина сломала бы синий камень. Поэтому они пользуются небольшими инструментами и руками. Порода поднимается наверх в ведре. Люди спускаются вниз по верёвке. Некоторые ямы очень глубокие.

The miners do not use machines. A machine would break the blue stone. So they use small tools and their hands. The rock comes up in the bucket. The men go down on the rope. Some holes are very deep.

Работа тяжёлая. Она также опасна. Полли сидит и смотрит. Наверх поднимается мокрое ведро. Человек высыпает породу и осматривает её.

The work is hard. It is also dangerous. Polly sits and watches. A wet bucket comes up. A man tips out the rock and looks through it.
